Specializing in Polish, Prussian, and Lithuanian genealogical research.

Your Past. Our Expertise.

Unlocking the door to our family’s past can be an impenetrable brick wall for those with roots in Poland, Prussia, and Lithuania. Saleker & Co. provides the expertise to break down that wall and unlock the door to your ancestors’ past.

I was referred to Owen as someone who was excellent at doing genealogical research in Eastern Europe. I had spent months being frustrated working with another company that was unable to find anything out about my family in Poland and Ukraine. In a very short time, after retaining Owen, I began receiving information about my grandparents. He exceeded every expectation and was a pleasure to work with. Nick K., Florida.

Areas of Expertise

Poland

Poland was once split between three empires: Prussia, Austria-Hungry, and Russia. Researching your ancestors in these three partitions of Poland presents unique challenges depending on where in Poland they lived. We have experience researching in all of them–with particular expertise in the Prussian and Russian partitions.

Germany

East & West Prussia

The current borders of the Republic of Germany today are tiny in comparison with the size of the former German Empire which spanned from modern-day France and Lithuania. The former German states of East Prussia (Ostpreußen) and East Prussia (Westpreußen) are today located in Poland and the Russian oblast Kaliningrad. The loss of church and civil records in these regions makes genealogical research daunting which is why our expertise in these two particular regions can provide invaluable insight into your ancestor’s past.

Germans from Lithuania

Germans have been living in Lithuania for centuries, particularly in the southwestern part of the country as well as the former Memelland (today Klaipeda). Due to changing borders, researching these individuals requires the ability to read multiple languages (Russian, Polish, Lithuanian, and German) depending on when your ancestors lived there. We are highly specialized in this specific group of individuals—Owen is the President and co-founder of the International Association of Germans from Lithuania (IAGL), a not-for-profit dedicated to providing resources and information to those who have German roots in Lithuania.

Ohio & Pennsylvania

Ohio is Owen’s home state, and has particular expertise in genealogical research within Cuyahoga County. His roots in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania—home to thousands of Polish, Lithuanian, and German immigrants who came to work in the coal mines—have given him valuable experience in researching families from the Wyoming Valley.

Property History & Probate Research

Those who live in historic properties are often curious about the people who lived there before them. Who were they? When did they live here? What year was the house built? We can help you answer those questions.

We can also help with probate research such as determining heirs for individuals who died intestate, adoption cases, and more.

Owen was able to trace my family back over 8 generations armed with only the little information I had on my great-grandparents. I was shocked at how quickly he was able to dig so deep into our family tree and the discoveries continue to surprise me and my family. I can't recommend him enough!
